Empty Leg FAQ
What is an empty leg flight?
An empty leg (also called a repositioning flight) occurs when an aircraft is flying without passengers to pick up or return from a booked trip. These flights can be sold at a reduced rate since the aircraft is already scheduled to fly that route.
How much can I save on an empty leg?
Empty leg pricing is typically 30%–75% lower than standard charter rates, depending on demand, route, and aircraft type. Pricing is dynamic and can change quickly.
Are empty legs one-way only?
Yes. Empty legs are almost always one-way flights. Return trips are not guaranteed unless a matching empty leg becomes available.
How flexible do I need to be?
Flexibility is key. Empty leg schedules are tied to the primary charter, so departure times may shift, routes may adjust slightly, and availability can change with little notice.
What happens if the main charter cancels?
If the primary flight cancels or changes, your empty leg may be rescheduled or canceled entirely. You will be notified as soon as possible and will not be charged if the flight cannot be completed. We will do our best to offer an alternative aircraft or route, or a discounted backup charter option.
Is my empty leg guaranteed once booked?
Empty legs are not guaranteed in the same way as a full charter. They are dependent on the primary flight operating as scheduled.
What is the refund policy?
- Operator cancels: 100% refund, or apply credit toward another flight.
- Schedule changes: Full refund or apply funds to a different flight.
- You cancel 72+ hours before departure: Typically full refund or credit.
- You cancel 24–72 hours before departure: May be subject to a 10–25% cancellation fee.
- Within 24 hours or no-show: Generally non-refundable.
How far in advance can I book?
Empty legs typically become available 1–7 days prior to departure, though some may appear earlier depending on scheduling.
What's included in the price?
Most empty leg pricing includes aircraft and crew, fuel, standard catering (varies by operator), and basic ground handling. Additional costs may include deicing, international fees, and premium catering or special requests.
How many passengers can I bring?
Passenger capacity depends on the aircraft assigned. We'll confirm maximum passenger count and baggage limitations when you book.
Can I bring pets?
Yes, in most cases. Pet policies vary by aircraft and operator, so please notify us in advance.
Are empty legs safe?
Yes. All flights operate under FAA Part 135 regulations with certified aircraft, qualified crews, and strict maintenance and safety standards.
Why are empty legs discounted?
Because the aircraft is already scheduled to fly, selling the empty leg helps offset operating costs — creating an opportunity to access private aviation at a significantly reduced price.
